What is Fine Linen? The idea of Fine Linen Ministries started out as a seed in my heart a few years ago. When I attended Bible college at Central Christian College of the Bible, I took a class on Ezekiel. Our class project was to come up with something creative over Ezekiel (a game, skit, song, etc.). I decided to write a song from Ezekiel 16, one of the most graphic chapters in the Bible. As I poured through this chapter I was awestruck at how redeeming my God is. How unconditional and gracious He is towards His wayward and rebellious children.
Ezekiel 16 tells the story of God finding a baby girl (Jerusalem) left and abandoned. No one wanted her. Her umbilical cord was uncut and she was still lying in her blood. God took her and raised her up to be a beautiful woman. He gave her the finest clothes and jewelry. "...I dressed you in fine linen and covered you with costly garments (v. 10)." Yet as this little girl becomes a young woman and God enters into a marriage covenant with her, she rejects Him time and time again. She turns to her other lovers and gives herself to them over and over, throwing in God's face everything He had done for her.
Throughout my life I have felt so unworthy of God's love, and I am. We all are. But as I grow deeper with my Heavenly Father I see time and time again how He takes my filthy clothing and replaces it with the Finest Linen. He takes care of me in the hardest situations. He loves me though I may feel unlovable. He sees people not as the world sees them. My worth is not in my performance or good deeds. I am worthy because my Creator, who spoke the world into existence, says I am. In the Bible, Fine Linen represents the righteousness of God. He does not see all our filth when we are dressed in Him. Turning our hearts back, being bathed in the waters of baptism, receiving the seal of the Holy Spirit: then all He can see is Fine Linen, bright and clean.
